Dance! - The Road to Heavies: lesson 36, September 5, 2016. Ouch!
I'm nervous like hell! I have to ask my teacher (and basically the rest of the students) permission to let a camera-crew from BNN (a Dutch broadcasting-unit) film at dance-class. The topic is my brother being genderdysphoric, something I can't hide as far as I'm concerned and that gives me the shivers.
Thankfully, this isn't a problem and almost every student gives the green light as well.
Dancing is little troublesome. Even during practice this week, I failed at the first step from the Reel and I felt how I just kept myself from getting injured somewhere in my right leg.
During dancing, the same muscle acts up. I stretch a lot, but it won't subside. It's probably my calve and after some stretch-advice (to find out which muscle is impeeded the most) it proves to be so. Some stretches mainly target the achilles while the others mainly get the calves working.
Even though I practiced 3 times this week, I hardly notice a difference, but that's also down to that muscle. Jumping and landing is extremely sensitive.
I'm quickly offered to change to heavy shoes, so I won't need my calves as much anymore.
I also limit myself a little with the foresight of the camera-crew next week.
With the heavy-shoe stuff, the teacher moves on with all the steps, while I did not get anything beyond the second series of steps. That's the first thing I have to practice for next week.
For the first time, I now have to get on my toes completely, to do some steps at quite the tempo. For now I reside to doing those nice and slow.
